Quiet Terra Studio

About the studio

A slower, more attentive place to learn with clay.

Our story

Quiet Terra Studio began around a shared worktable in Portland, where a small group of makers wanted instruction that respected both curiosity and concentration. We grew carefully: first through weekend handbuilding circles, then through structured classes that make technique feel approachable rather than intimidating.

Today, our studio welcomes beginners, returning makers, and experienced sculptors who want a thoughtful place to develop their own forms. We value honest process, useful critique, and pieces that carry the evidence of the hand.

Our mission

To make clay education calm, rigorous, and welcoming—so more people can build a sustainable creative practice with their hands.

What guides us

Teach the why

We explain decisions, not just steps, so knowledge travels with you beyond class.

Make space

Small groups and clear studio systems support focus, conversation, and different learning speeds.

Respect materials

We use clay thoughtfully, reuse workable scraps, and treat firing as part of the learning process.
